13. The Jungle Song

So this is where it ends
This is where the line is drawn
Finally the mask’s come down
And the smiles turn to a frown

And the tide has finally turned
Salt water washed away
The secret words we had
Written in the sand
Then
And there
I
Let go
Of your hand

This is the heart
Of darkness
It pulses deep
Beneath the surface

From now on no more shall I
Scan across my shoulder
To see if you are there
I had hoped you would have followed
I had hoped I’d see you here

About The Jungle Song

The Jungle Song is about farewells, about letting go and the sadness that invokes. Like Orpheus tragically looking back at his Euridice the protagonist accepts his fate and resigns himself to pursue his path from now on.

So this is where it ends. And in the end, after this journey into the heart of darkness, after all our human struggles, all those intense emotions, the passion, the anger, the love, the pain, the wonders, after all the human vanity… only nature abides.

Life’s a jungle and we’re but a tiny part of it. But what a beautiful jungle it is. It soothes us and lays the worried to rest. If you, the listener, have been listening to this record in the dark, and are comfortably dosing off with this last track, may the jungle sounds provide a meditative calm.
